You Don't Have To Decide Anything Today
3 min read · INTYMA Editorial
Urgency is persuasive
The pressure to decide — stay, go, forgive, end it — can feel like an alarm going off. That feeling is real. It is also not the same as an actual deadline.
Sort the questions
Write out everything you feel you must decide. Then mark each one:
- Genuinely urgent: safety, health, children's needs, money, housing.
- Feels urgent: whether to forgive, what to tell family, whether the relationship can be rebuilt.
The second list is the difficult one, and it is almost never improved by speed.
Give the question a home
Unanswered questions take up residence in the whole day. Giving them a scheduled twenty minutes — same time, same notebook — often reduces the noise for the other twenty-three hours.
Patience is not avoidance
Waiting on a decision is not the same as refusing to make one. Waiting is a decision about timing, and it is often the most useful one available.
